(November 2024) The Fiordland Trails Trust has launched a quacker of a fundraiser and is looking forward to it making a real splash on February 8, 2025.
The Trust will hold a Duck Derby from 3pm on Saturday 8th February, racing hundreds of rubber ducks down the Upukerora River amongst a fun, family afternoon.
The premise is simple – families/individuals purchase a duck. If their duck places in the top three of the race, they’ll win goods up to the value of $500 (first place), $300 (second) and $100 (third). There is also a corporate duck race, with less ducks, and an overall prize of goods to the value of $1000.
Ducks will be dropped off the Upukerora Trail bridge, and will ‘race’ 150-200m before the winners are crowned.
There will also be a fun, family afternoon with kids’ activities and a BBQ, along with the duck races, all held just past the Upukerora Trail bridge.
To further support fundraising efforts, the Trust is also holding a series of online silent auctions for a range of fantastic items.
The current auction is for an awesome BMX. Details are here: https://www.32auctions.com/BMX
Proceeds of both the Duck Derby and the online auction will go towards the Trust’s work in trail and plant maintenance, Lake2Lake completion costs, and costs associated with developing trails towards Te Anau Downs.
