The Fiordland Trails Trust has endeavored to make our trails as disability friendly as possible. There are no ‘kissing gates’ nor cattle stops. Where vehicles might otherwise access the trail, we have erected simple, straight barriers in line with the trail.
We have sought to make Grade 2 cycle trails wherever possible.
There are some sections where this grade was not possible, most notably just south of Queen’s Reach (between approximately 10km and 12km from Te Anau – the trail has distance markers along it). That said, we have had disabled users through this section. If you are considering using this section on a disability device, we recommend having a friend walk through first. The most disability friendly section of our trails is between the boat harbour and the Upukerora River Mouth. This section of trail is very flat with only one small undulation that allows overflow from a small lake in front of the residential area.
If you would like to contact a local with disabilities who uses the trail, please call/email Peter Dolarmore: E: pjdola@gmail.com, P: 027 688 4626
