The Fiordland Trails Trust is extremely grateful to the T D Mankelow Family Charitable Fund and Predator Free NZ, who have granted the Trust $5000 to support its ongoing predator control work around the trail network.
The funding has allowed the Trust to invest in DOC200 and DOC250 traps which will be utilised along the new trail sections form the Upukerora Trail Bridge, as it continues its ambitions to remove pests and predators from the trail network.
FTT has engaged Gerard Hill at Edge Effect as our predator control contractor.
FTT Trails Manager Clare Ngakai said the grant, and the support, would make a big difference.
“The Fiordland Trails Trust is very conscious of our responsibility to look after our local environment, and pest control plays a big part in that,” she said.
“We are very grateful for the support of the T D Mankelow Family Charitable Fund, to Predator Free NZ and to Gerard and the Edge Effect team for supporting this work to protect the area adjacent to the newer parts of our trail network.”
The trapping follows FTT’s Jobs for Nature project, which included a predator control programme across 345ha within the Upukerora River delta area and riverbed areas.
